Jesse,

I am sorry. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do thirteen years ago. I still don’t. I was just a kid and our house was so bad that I thought if I left, maybe it wouldn’t be that bad anymore. Maybe he wouldn’t scream and, without me to hit, maybe he wouldn’t hit. All I knew for sure was that if I left, things would be better for me and at that time, that’s all I cared about. I know how selfish that sounds and if I could change it, I would. In a heartbeat. I don’t blame you for being angry—I would be, too. At least we have that in common—both of us think I’m a terrible sister. But I want to make up for what I did. For the years that we’ve wasted. I know you told me not to write, but all I’ve got of you are these dumb letters that hopefully you read. So, I’m going to keep writing, because it’s too hard not to.

I miss you, Jesse. And I know you don’t believe it, but I love you.
